This Privacy Policy explains what information SCS Home Inspector Training ("SCS," "we," "us," or "our") collects through our website, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep this deliberately simple: we run our own first-party analytics, we don't use third-party advertising trackers, and we don't sell your data.

1. Information You Provide Directly

When you submit our contact form, we collect the information you enter: your name, email address, area of interest, and message. This is sent to our form handler (Netlify Forms, our website host) and used solely to respond to your inquiry.

2. Information We Collect Automatically

If you accept cookies via the banner on our site, we collect first-party analytics data ourselves, on infrastructure we control, so we can understand how visitors use the site. Specifically:

• Page views — which pages you visited and when.
• Referring page — the page or link that sent you to our site, if any.
• Anonymous visitor ID — a randomly generated ID stored in a cookie for up to 1 year, used to recognize repeat visits. It is not tied to your name, email, or any other identifying information unless you separately submit our contact form.
• Session ID — a separate, shorter-lived identifier (cleared when you close your browser tab) used to group the pages you view in one visit and tell one visit apart from another.
• Time on page — an approximate duration, in seconds, for how long a page stayed visible in your browser tab during a visit.
• Approximate location — country, region, and city, inferred from your IP address by our hosting provider's network at the time of your request. We do not collect or store your IP address itself, and we do not use GPS or precise device location.
• Basic browser and device information — your browser's user agent string, screen resolution, timezone, language, and general platform (e.g., "Chrome / macOS").
• Device signature — a short code generated in your browser from the signals above (screen size, timezone, language, browser details). It helps us get a rough sense of whether repeat activity is coming from the same device, even if cookies are cleared. This is a coarse, disclosed signal, not persistent cross-site fingerprinting technology (we do not use canvas, WebGL, or audio fingerprinting), and it is not precise or reliable enough to uniquely identify a specific person or device on its own.

We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any other third-party analytics or advertising service. This tracking is built and hosted entirely by us and runs on our own server infrastructure (Netlify). We do not sell, rent, or share this data with advertisers or data brokers.

3. Cookies & Local Storage We Use

• scs_vid — an anonymous visitor identifier, stored for up to 1 year, set only after you accept cookies.
• A session identifier stored in your browser's session storage, cleared automatically when you close the tab.
• Your cookie preference (accepted/declined) is stored in your browser's local storage, not a cookie, so we can remember your choice without tracking you before you've made it.

If you decline cookies, none of the above is set and no analytics data is sent. Essential site functionality (like navigating the page) does not depend on cookies.

4. How We Use Information

We use the information above to: respond to inquiries submitted through our contact form; understand which pages and programs visitors are most interested in; and improve our website and course offerings over time.

5. Who We Share Information With

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with the service providers that help us run this website:

• Netlify — our website host, which processes contact form submissions and hosts our first-party analytics storage on our behalf.

We may also disclose information if required to do so by law, or to protect our rights, users, or the public.

6. Data Retention

Contact form submissions are retained as long as reasonably necessary to respond to and follow up on your inquiry. Analytics records are retained for internal reporting purposes and may be deleted or aggregated periodically.

7. Your Choices

You can change your cookie preference at any time using the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer of this site. You can also clear cookies through your browser settings. To request that we delete personal information you've submitted to us (such as a contact form message), email hello@scstraining.com.

8. Children's Privacy

Our Services are intended for adults and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above.
